I (Segun) was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved to Germany as a child, where I have lived ever since. Art and creativity have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child I enjoyed drawing and sketching at school, without realizing that these early interests would eventually lead me toward fashion design and become a central part of my identity.
Throughout my studies, I have been guided by questions that continue to shape my work. I often prefer to work with clearly defined themes and to translate ideas and meanings directly into garments, whilst keeping it aesthetic. What role does clothing play in the lives of people who navigate different cultural contexts? How can fashion act as a medium for memory, safety, dialogue and connection? These questions have led me to approach fashion not only as an aesthetic practice, but as a language that reflects and engages with social and cultural realities.
During my Bachelor’s studies, I developed a research based approach to fashion design that explores cultural identity through material, symbolism and visual language. In several projects, I worked with archetypes drawn from my own and other traditions, investigating the tension between historical references and contemporary interpretation. My goal was to explore how garments can be modernized without falling into stereotypical representations or superficial quotations of tradition.
